For Tenor Saxophone and piano. A new tenor saxophone solo with piano in 3 movements - I. Crystal; II. Chasing Moonlight; and III. Brick and Steel.
A beautiful, well-crafted concert work for tenor sax and piano, which recounts the observations of the composer from a high loft in Chicago. The duo between sax and piano in movement one is incredible, just as the harmonies and intricacies of the second movement are. The 3rd Movement, Brick and Steel, is a rhythmic tour de force, which exhibits elements of street musicians - including 'bucket' drumming by the pianist (common household items are suggested to complete the percussion 'set').
This wonderful piece was commissioned by a group of 30 saxophonists as part of the Contemporary Tenor Repertoire Initiative. Their contribution to expanding the repertoire is recorded in the score.
