Robert Lemay continues his research for equality between two identical instruments. In
all other DEUCES (his series of saxophone duos), Lemay used two identical saxophones: two altos, two tenors, etc. Here, the focus is on two different instruments, but pitched in the same key: E flat. Even though the registers are different, there remains a similarity in the timbre of the E-flat saxophones.
Deuce 6 was written for the duo Dúo Lisus (Jesus Nunez & Lidia Muñoz Mora) who premiered it at the “II Jornadas de música contemporánea” festival in Málaga (Spain)
in March, 2024. The piece is written for the duo of alto and baritone saxophones. It features modern harmonic language, intricate rhythmic interactions, and a few modern saxophone performance techniques - including altissimo in both parts, bisbigliando (trimbral trills), slap-tonguing, and multiphonics (fingerings provided in score).
