Concert étude 24 by Christian Lauba, Flamenco is written for solo alto saxophone. One of his most popular études, the piece is written with a Spanish flair - incorporating the 'Andalusian' mode. The subtitle indicates it is a "Grand étude in the andalusian mode with percussion parameters." Dedicated to Richard Ducros.
Lauba begins the piece with a rhythmic and percussive introduction which uses key clicks (bruits de clefs), reminiscent of castanets. The mode is quickly established as the saxophone begins its melodic introduction. Other performance techniques include multiphonics, light altissimo, bisbigliandi, and slap-tonguing; circular breathing is also implied. The approximate duration is 5'.
